For Kmode Interior customers who might not be familiar with Loop Home, how would you describe your brand and the range of products you offer?
We launched Loop Home in 2022 with a mission to create textiles that offered accessible design, that were sustainably sourced and of the highest quality achievable using only organic fibres. Our first collection included bath and bed linen, but we are now focussing our efforts on expanding our bath collection which you’ll find at Kmode.
What inspired you to found Loop Home, and how did your past experiences shape the brand's mission and values?
We felt that there was a gap in the market for a range that provided a beautiful aesthetic in the home, while remaining accessible to people. Much like fashion, textiles can be notorious for the improper treatment of workers and the high use of damaging chemicals used both in the farming stages and production. We’re one of about 20 brands in Australia that is certified as a retailer under GOTS (“Global Organic Textile Standard”), that provides an independent verification audit that the manufacture of our products involves none of these conditions.
How do the traditional techniques and organic cotton sourced from the Aegean coastline contribute to the uniqueness and quality of Loop Home products?
There is a rich history of textile creation and design in Turkiye and the conditions in the region are perfect for growing organic cotton (GOTS required organic cotton to be rain fed not irrigated) which is characterised by long and strong fibres, an important feature of towels that are soft and long-lasting. Our suppliers have sourced their fibres from the same growers for decades, and so we feel really comfortable that they’ll continue to be able to create beautiful products for us going forward.
Can you explain the Re-Loop program and how it enhances Loop Home’s commitment to sustainability and product stewardship?
Re-Loop was created to provide a closed-loop recycling solution for all goods sold by Loop Home. Our recycling program offers customers 8% of their original purchase price back as credit when they return their used goods. We will then recycle these textiles mechanically without the use of harsh chemicals to create new products sold through Re-Loop.
What steps do you take to ensure transparency in your supply chain, and what challenges have you encountered in maintaining this transparency?
It’s really difficult to achieve this from afar when working with international suppliers, especially when they’re usually sourcing their fibres from other companies in their supply chains. This is why we only work with GOTS certified suppliers to ensure that they can provide the independent assurance to us that they have audited every step in our supply chain.
How do you balance sustainability with high-quality design
and affordability in your products?
It’s really challenging – GOTS organic cotton trades at a premium to conventional cotton because with GOTS you have confidence that everyone has been paid properly in the supply chain. We are audited annually by GOTS and have recently become a certified B Corporation. While these are expensive processes, we feel they are important to give our customers confidence in how our products are made so they can focus on just enjoying our designs. Our model is to price our products at a level that we think is fair and we rarely hold sales.
What’s your favourite Loop Home product available at Kmode Interiors?
We love the butter/stone bath towel in grid – it works in a range of bathrooms and because of the Jacquard weaving technique that we use in all our towels you can reverse them to mix up the look between the butter and the stone side.
What future projects or expansions are you excited about, and how do you see Loop Home evolving in the next few years?
We’re an independent, self-funded business and so our focus is on growing our range of towels gradually and sustainably to make sure we’re here for a long time. We have our new collection arriving in October which will have three new colourways and face cloths across the range. As part of this, we’re currently moving into a bigger warehouse in Bayside which will allow the business to grow, and we’re exploring other soft textiles for the home which we’re hoping to be able to share some more information on soon.
